WELCOME

Festival is one of the three largest and most important sound and film music festivals in the world.

ISFMF is promoting awareness of the importance of music and sound as irreplaceable elements of film. The festival also provides visibility to audiovisual professions who work in the field of composing music, sound design and sound mixing. 

Our mission is:

  • To originate and encourage constructive discussions about the link between film and music.
  • To connect people through discussion panels, seminars, film markets and media publishing.
  • To advise and educate young composers and other people.
  • To start and maintain creative conversations about film and music.
  • To provide a space for film music enthusiasts to come together and share their knowledge.

Michael Minkler

sound designer
one of Hollywood's top sound designers with three Oscar® wins and 13 nominations, including three BAFTA Awards. He is responsible for the fantastic sound in films such as TRON, JFK, Black Hawk Down, Collateral, Chicago, Kingdom of Heaven, Dreamgirls, Into the Wild, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight and many others.

Robert Townson

music producer
is the most prolific film music producer in the world. Robert has been described as "the living embodiment of the history of film music". His lifelong passion for film and classical music has made him one of the world's greatest film music educators, inspiring others through his lectures, writings, concerts and recordings. He released over 1400 albums.

Stephen Warbeck

composer
British composer, best known for his film and television music. He became famous for his score for Prime Suspect and he won an Academy Award® for his score for Shakespeare in Love. He won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Music in a Play, as well as numerous awards for Billy Elliot and Captain Corelli's Mandolin. In 2020, he directed his first feature film, The Thin Man, which has since been renamed in France as The Man in the Hat, starring Ciarán Hinds and Stephen Dillane.

American sound designer and winner of four Oscars®, is responsible for the magnificent sound in the films Dunkirk, Interstellar, The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, Thor, The Dark Knight, War of the Worlds, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, Master and Commander and Signs.

Randy Thom

sound designer
two-time Oscar® winner and one of the most important and respected sound designers in Hollywood. His masterpieces include films like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Forrest Gump, Contact, Cast Away, Harry Potter, The Polar Express, The Incredibles, War of the World, Ratatouille, How to Train Your Dragon, Flight, The Revenant and many others. Randy Thom is the director of sound design at Skywalker Sound, the largest and most important sound studio in the world, which is also part of George Lucas' Lucasfilm Company.

The Outrun

"The Outrun" is a drama film based on Amy Liptrot's best-selling memoir, following Rona (Saoirse Ronan) as she returns to her childhood home in the Orkney Islands after a stint in rehab for alcoholism. The film explores her struggle with addiction, her attempts to reconnect with nature and her family, and her journey towards self-discovery and recovery amidst the rugged beauty of the islands.

Beyond The Plaques

Commissioned by English Heritage and National Youth Ballet, Beyond The Plaques is a dance film inspired by the lives of four female Pioneers; sculptor Eleanor Coade, author Frances Burney, poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and astronomer Annie Maunder. These women's overlooked achievements provoke a contemporary response from four young female artists, weaving themes of cultural ephemerality, societal expectations of women, and exploration amidst isolation.

The Girl from Fedamore

An experimental Gaelic Gothic film musical set in 1920s rural Ireland. Loosely based on real events, a young woman murders her husband with the help of her lover, his nephew. The film explores her inner world leading up to and after the murder, culminating with both of their executions. She remains the only woman to be executed in Independent Ireland.

Plastic Surgery

A doctor on her last day before maternity leave is thrown into chaos when a hidden threat emerges. This film marks Guy’s Directing debut and something very close to his heart. Tackling the issue of Plastic Pollution and its effect on the planet and our health is why Guy wrote this story back during Covid.
